Nanda Vigo's work comes alive in the exhibition “Nanda
Vigo Incontri ravvicinati. Arte, Architettura, Design” (Nanda Vigo Close Encounters. Art, Architecture, Design) which will be
inaugurated at the Sozzani Foundation in Milan on September 4th, in
conjunction with Milan Design Week and Supersalone 2021.
Effervescent and curious, Nanda Vigo
(Milan, 1936-2020) was simultaneously an architect, artist and designer, an
absolute protagonist of the Milanese and European cultural climate of the
sixties and was tied to Glas Italia (at that time "Glass Design
Collection") through a long and fruitful collaboration.
Innovative and often provocative, her
projects have marked the transitional steps in the history of Glas Italia;
tables, coffee tables, shelves, consoles and iconic mirrors, many of which are
still in the current collection.
On this occasion, Glas Italia has re-edited the “Andromeda” table and the mirrors, the first collection designed in 1974 by Nanda Vigo for the company, for which she was recognized with the prestigious Saint Gobain award, and has produced the special glass panels forming the “Ambiente Cronotopico” (Chronotopical Environment) of 1968, thus allowing it to be realized again in physical form.
Several historical pieces by Glas Italia
are also exhibited, evidence of the profound research carried out with the
Milanese artist, curated and preserved with thanks to the valuable work done by
the Nanda Vigo Archive.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog
full of historical ideas and unpublished documents, available to visitors in the
exhibits within the Foundation.
